Ethiopian vipers are rarely seen in the wild or in zoos.

A baby Ethiopian viper appears to be considering its next move. The tiny venomous snake is one of 12 born at the San Diego Zoo this week. The young snake was photographed while being visually checked by animal care staff. Ethiopian viper are native to the highlands of Ethiopia and are very rare in zoo settings. The live birth of the dozen babies represents the second for this species in an accredited zoo in North America, the first birth of 6 occurred last year also at the San Diego Zoo.
