Meet Ben!

Zoo InternQuest is a seven-week career exploration program for San Diego County high school juniors and seniors. Students have the unique opportunity to meet professionals working for the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, and Institute for Conservation Research, learn about their jobs, and then blog about their experience online. Follow their adventures here on the Zoo’s website!

Hello! My name is Ben, and I am a junior in high school. I am also a lover of the Zoo, which I have been going to for pretty much my whole life. The Zoo is where I learned to love all the different species of animals on this planet. This internship has given me a great opportunity to help me learn how to give back to these incredible animals.

I am a pretty outgoing person who enjoys anything that has to do with nature. If I am not doing any homework, one of my favorite places to go is La Jolla Cove, where I can snorkel, freedive, and interact with all of the wildlife. I have always had pets and animals around me. My family has had many different pets, from tortoises and frogs to dogs and fish.

I enjoy researching and learning about physics, from quantum theory to the formation of stars. I am currently a medical anomaly, and not playing sports at the moment. I do enjoy hobbies like, surfing, being politically active, and learning new things. I am a part of the academic league at my school and a club that I have created, Get Out the Vote Club. It is a club that helps inform my peers as well as others about the importance of voting and being politically active.

With this internship opportunity, I will have a chance to teach other people the importance of conservation and helping the wildlife, and I will have the chance to apply this new knowledge in the form of a future career. Hopefully, I can make the world a better place, even if it is just taking the first step of many.
