Zoo InternQuest is a seven-week career exploration program for San Diego County high school juniors and seniors. Students have the unique opportunity to meet professionals working for the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, and Institute for Conservation Research, learn about their jobs, and then blog about their experience online. Hello! I am Coby. I’d like to welcome you all and thank you for taking the time out of your day to visit.
I am currently in my senior year of high school. I am a man of logic, but I tend to lose focus easily. Often, I will be so busy daydreaming about the benefits of a certain action that I’ll forget to act. I’m also imaginative and enjoy engaging my mind in hypothetical scenarios. Admittedly, I’m a much better listener than a leader, but I don’t see that as a negative aspect. I have goals and motivation, which is what really matters.
My biggest motivator in life is my love for animals. When I was three, I became obsessed with dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. As I grew older, my love for dinosaurs widened to include a love for all animals. It has impacted the classes I choose to take, and it continues to motivate me to reach my goals.
The best thing about animals is that they are so diverse. There’s a favorite animal out there for everyone, whether it be the sea scorpion or the quokka. In my spare time, I love to research about different animals, as well as talk about them with friends. Although, I still have a lot to learn, I pride myself in the knowledge I have attained thus far. Often, I will spend whole days reading articles about animals.
Of course, animals aren’t my only interest. When I am not in school, I enjoy reading, watching comedic tv shows, playing video games, and hanging out with my friends. Also, I sing in a choir. Overall, I hope to to be accepted into UC Davis based on my academic achievements rather than my physical ones.
The chance to intern at the San Diego Zoo is a great way to begin my journey into zoology, so I will cherish every moment of it. I have big dreams and high expectations of myself, so an opportunity like this can’t be missed.
