Zoo InternQuest is a seven-week career exploration program for San Diego County high school juniors and seniors. Students have the unique opportunity to meet professionals working for the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, and Institute for Conservation Research, learn about their jobs, and then blog about their experience online. Follow their adventures here!
Hi everyone! My name is Julianna, and before we start this adventure together, let me tell you a few things about myself. As a current member of my school’s dance team, I’ve grown to love the sassy group of ladies who’ve become my second family. Additionally, I am an editor on my school’s magazine, The Scribe. With that opportunity, I’ve gotten to advance my leadership skills, grow in my writing and interview techniques, and help create a product enjoyed by the student body.
I am also on the board of directors for My Girlfriend’s Closet, which is a community service organization that provides gently used clothing to foster girls in San Diego. In my free time, I love to watch movies with my sister as we stuff our faces with popcorn and junk food. One of my favorite movies of all time is 10 Things I Hate About You with Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. I love the high school comedic twist it takes on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.
I am very interested in the biological sciences, specifically, evolutionary sciences and natural selection and the role these processes have shaped our world. I am often amazed how similar we are to different species. As a junior at Francis Parker, I am now starting the college search. I am thinking about my future and my path has led me into biological sciences, particularly animal science and medicine. In college, I am interested in pursuing veterinary medicine, and I aspire to specialize in larger animals. It pains me to see animals suffer whether through illness or extinction.
I am thrilled with the opportunity to participate in InternQuest at the San Diego Zoo. I am excited to pursue my interests and further my education under the tutelage of the Zoo’s experts.
